Our pursuit of happiness

Welcome, welcome, it’s lovely to have you visit.  We're Emma and Struan, and we're absolutely thrilled to welcome you to our Pursuit of Happiness. This blog has been a long time coming, and we're excited to finally dive into sharing our thoughts, experiences, inspiration, and artistry with you all.

For our first blog post, we felt it would be fitting to take you back to the start. Sitting by the Vltava River in Prague, on the 13th of May, 2016, was where our journey truly began. It was there, amidst the beauty of the city and the gentle flow of the river, that Thirteen 05 Gallery was born.

Our decision to transition from full-time advertising roles to pursuing our passion for art was a deeply personal one, rooted in the loss of a dear friend earlier that same year. It was a wake-up call, reminding us of the fragility of life and the importance of chasing our dreams.

Fast forward to January 2017, and Thirteen 05 became a reality—a beautiful robust building, attached to the historical Frangos and Frangos hotel became our gallery, nestled in the heart of Daylesford. Our space felt grand, with high ceilings, giant wall to ceiling wall windows and polished concrete floors. This space became our very first gallery, at 82c Vincent Street.

The space exuded a grandiose yet relaxed vibe, reflecting our eclectic tastes and styles, housed within a hard industrial open plan room. With no fixed exhibition dates, the gallery was in a perpetual state of flux, always evolving with new works of art from both emerging talents and established Australian artists and work by ourselves. It is here where we first found our feet in our new gallery world.

As we embark on this new adventure with our Pursuit of Happiness blog, we sit here typing with our little mate Ferguson, forever attached to our lap, our goal is simple: to spread happiness and inspiration through our art and words. So join us on this journey as we explore the beauty of art, lifestyle, and all things that spark joy. After all, happiness is meant to be shared.
